General Conditions of Car Hire

Our rates include: Unlimited mileage (except with some types of vehicles in certain locations), collision damage waiver (unless caused by misuse), third party insurance cover (including the supplementary liability insurance in the USA), unless requested otherwise, theft protection insurance, government taxes and/or state imposed taxes (also bail bond in Spain).

Collision Damage Waiver: In some cases an excess charge is payable in the case of vehicles returned damaged. Please check in the info / other information section or contact reservations.

Theft Protection Insurance: In some countries an excess charge is applied if the vehicle is actually stolen. Details should be requested at the time of booking. Personal belongings are not covered should they be stolen from the vehicle.

Not included: Fuel, personal accident insurance (optional), special request items (roof-rack, baby seat, etc.), additional drivers and/or young driver surcharges (where applicable).

Seasonal Rates: Where seasonal rates apply, the applicable rate will be the rate ruling on the date of collection, even if the period of hire extends into another season, unless otherwise advised.

Personal Accident Insurance: This is an optional insurance which is usually covered by your holiday insurance policy. If you decide to take this locally, you have to pay for it locally, there is no refund.

Driving Licence: Hirers/drivers must produce a full driving licence, held for at least one year, except in the Balearics and Ireland where it must have been held for two years. The car rental company must reserve the right to refuse renting a car to a person with endorsements on their licence or who, in their opinion, is unfit to drive or does not meet eligibility requirements. In such cases, your contract with us becomes void and we will have no further liability to the hirer. It is advisable at all times, in all countries that drivers carry I.D. , ie, passport or international driving licence.

Age Limits: These vary from country to country. The normal is that drivers must be 21 years or over, with at least 12 months minimum driving experience. Please check at time of booking. In some countries there is an additional surcharge payable locally for drivers under 25 years.

Car Groups/Models: All bookings are confirmed by group and vehicles supplied may be a different make and model to that advertised. In such cases we reserve the right to have a vehicle of similar size/specification supplied.

Vehicle Suitability: Upon collection of your vehicle and during the hire, if you are dissatisfied in any way with the standard of the vehicle, you must report this to the rental supplier immediately. It is difficult for I. T. S. & Co. Ltd.. to assess any claim made regarding the standard of your vehicle on completion of the hire.

Mechanical Difficulties: In case of breakdown or mechanical difficulties, you must immediately call the car hire company, whose telephone number will appear on the rental agreement. Authority to obtain repairs or replacement cars must be given by the local car hire company. If you are involved in an accident in the hire car, the local police and the car hire company MUST be informed. Keep copies of any relevant documentation you are asked to complete.

Deposits: Cars are usually supplied with a full tank of fuel and this is charged for at time of collection. This does vary however, and in some countries other arrangements may apply. In most cases, a major credit card will be required to cover fuel and any other extras. Deposits against damage are required in some countries and a major credit card can be used for this purpose. The credit card holder should be the main driver, otherwise, additional charges may apply.

Delivery/Collection: This is normally free at airports during normal daylight/working hours (this varies locally and can be advised at the time of booking). If an out-of-hours service can be provided, there will be a local fee.

Driving Areas: Generally vehicles may be taken out of the original country of hire. There may be a local charge for this service (check with reservations). Vehicles must not be taken in to some Eastern European countries or Morocco. Cars may not be taken in to Mexico from the USA.

Special Requests: Baby/child seats, roof racks, ski racks and snow chains may be available in most destinations provided they are specially requested at the time of booking, although these items cannot be guaranteed at any time. In most cases a small charge will be made. The cost of these items is subject to change without prior notification.

Traffic Offences: Clients are responsible for any parking fines, tow away charges or impounding fees incurred by them. Please note that this rule also applies to airport waiting areas and cars must be redelivered to points as instructed at time of collection.

Cancellations: Cancellation charges are as follows:
A charge of £10.00 (15.00 Euros, 16.00 US Dollars) applies to all cancellations notified up to 7 working days before start of hire. Shorter notice may incur higher charges, depending on vehicle and location. No refunds for no-shows at destination or failure to produce relevant documents including driving licence, early returns or cancellations after the hire start date. There are no refunds on any unused days. All communications regarding cancellations must be directed to the U.K. office or enquiries quoting the booking reference.

Amendments: Reservations can be amended without charge. Please direct all communications to the U.K. office or enquiries quoting the booking reference.

There will be no contract between the company and the hirer until the appropriate deposit has been received by the company and the booking confirmed in writing by the company.

The terms and conditions of hiring vehicles are governed by local laws and the rental contract signed locally on collection of the car is legally binding on the hirer. All reservations are made by our consolidator Transhire World Wide Ltd. and all coupons and vouchers are issued by the company in their capacity as agents/intermediaries for the principals supplying the relevant services, upon the expressed condition that Transhire World Wide Ltd. is not responsible to the hirer for loss, damage, delay, injury, cancellation, alterations, irregularity or additional expenses suffered by the hirer whatsoever.

It is the hirer's responsibility to ensure that he is aware of the correct date and airport of arrival and that the correct flight number and time of arrival are given. Failure to do so could result in the car not being available. In this event, Transhire World Wide Ltd. / I. T. S. & Co. Ltd will not be held responsible.

The company reserves the right to amend prices and conditions of hire without notice.

All amounts and age limits shown above are subject to change by the local supplier and/or government agencies, including increases in local VAT or other tax without notice.
